HOW WE BECAME EMPLOYEE-OWNERS!

In 1995, the Babb family decided to institute an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).  It is a qualified retirement plan, through which the company purchases stock from the major stockholders (the Babb family) and sells the stock to a retirement plan for its employees.

Through the ESOP, the employees of J&S Oil, who meet the plan qualifications, receive stock in their company at no cost to them!  Employee Ownership has had a very positive effect on the attitudes of our people and on the way they feel about their work.  In 2002, J&S Oil was named the New England ESOP Association "Company of the Year".

Linda Pekins is J&S Oil's 2011 ESOP Employee Owner of the Year!

Linda was voted "ESOP Employee Owner of the Year", by her peers, in recognition of her contagious enthusiasm for J&S Oil and Employee Ownership.  Linda has only been with the company since June of 2008, but shares the same level of commitment as those who have been here for decades.  She works to cut costs, and has a great work ethic and pride in what she does.

Linda joined the ECC a year ago and she hit the ground running, quickly becoming a great contributor and valuable member of the committee.  She is a positive person, who brings smiles to everyone around her.  We are proud to call her our Employee Owner of the Year!

Another qualified pension program, offered to associates of J&S Oil, is a 401-K plan.  Eligible employees who enroll in the 401-K may make pre-tax contributions of between 1% and 15% of their gross weekly income.  J&S Oil provides a percentage match, to those contributions.

J&S Oil's match is 25% - for the first 5% of your weekly contribution. Enrollees in the 401-K may choose from an established list of Mutual Funds, in which to invest.  These funds vary in estimated risk and rate of return.  There are funds for both the aggressive and the conservative investors.  Once an account is established, enrollees receive a personal identification number (pin) and can make changes to their investments online or over the phone.

HEALTH INSURANCE

J&S Oil offers Harvard Pilgrim health insurance and Securian Dental, to employees, their spouses and children. The Health insurance carries a $20K life insurance policy. Additional life insurance, and disability are also available, for those who choose to purchase them.

There are multiple levels of health insurance coverage to choose from. Premiums are determined by the level of insurance you choose and whether the insurance is for the employee only, or for spouses and/or children too.
